My soapbox rant for this week - get a decent knife, and save yourself some money. If you break down cuts of meat yourself, you'll get better control of your food, and your budget. I'm not suggesting you have to take a quarter cow and turn it into perfect 6 oz filets (although with a little elbow grease and a lot of freezer space, you could.) I'm talking about some very basic knife work.

Meat and veggies should be the cornerstones of your diet, assuming you're not a vegetarian. Some fruit, if you've got a sweet tooth like me. Here's what I'm looking at for the week's meals.

Sav-a-Lot: A 72-hour sale ends today, August 16. This sale has chicken leg quarters for .34 per pound - super cheap. Also peaches, plums or nectaries at .79 per pound. Sales good at SAL until Aug. 29 are:

Boneless ribeyes: $5.99/lb

Boneless skinless chicken breast: $1.99/lb

Vine ripe tomatoes: .99/lb

Sweet potatoes: 8lb bag for $3.99
