How long have you been CrossFitting? 9 months as a crossfitter

What keeps you coming back? The opportunity to keep improving myself and the positive atmosphere of the gym keep me coming back. The people that are involved with this gym are awesome too. I enjoy seeing the people in my class each morning.

How did you find CrossFit? I found crossfit online looking for a group of people that wanted to work out early in the morning. Crossfit Algiers popped up a few times. I called. Jodi answered. I started the next day.

What is your athletic background? I played baseball pre-high school. I swam during high school. I had no experience at all with a gym, with running, or with lifting.

How has CrossFit changed your life? Crossfit has been a great improvement to my life. Starting my day with an awesome group of people and some challenging physical activity...what could be better.

Is there something you've done here that you never thought you could? I thought because of my knee surgeries in the past that I should not and could not run much or lift anything too heavy. Since I started at Crossfit Algiers, my knee feels better and I feel stronger than ever.

What motivates you? I am motivated by my goals...and I have lots of them. With my short time on this Earth, I intend to accomplish many things. Keeping my body strong and healthy is essential. I want to be upright and mobile playing in the street with my great grandkids with people in shock that the old guy is still kicking ass.

I am inspired by the strength of others, especially by those who overcome extreme hardship and by those who make hard decisions. It's also very easy to be inspired by the 515am group at CA...the bunch of badass mofos that they are.

Name one goal that you'd like to achieve through CrossFit? When I can do 20 pulls up without my feet touching the ground, I will have met my number one goal that I set when I showed up on day one.

What have you already achieved? Less than one year ago, I had never run a mile as an adult. Now I run a 10k with no problem, even though I consider quitting with every step. Also, I had no idea what crossfit was when I showed up. I didn't watch videos or read about it. I took a leap of faith. Now I do squat snatches and clean and jerks. Who woulda thunk it!

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit? I have always loved New Orleans, local brass bands, tall buildings, and almost anything old. I can often be found with my wife, Vicki, and my dog, George, walking the streets of downtown New Orleans, people watching and getting involved in the greatest place in the world.

I also love to write. Check out my book on Amazon titled Improve the Way You Live: Filter. It's a short, simple read for anyone looking for a bit of perspective.

Tell us about your diet? My diet consists of a lot of home cooked meals of every type of food. Vicki might be the best unknown chef in the Universe, and I get to be the tester for all of her culinary endeavors.  Lots of eggs in the morning, chicken or pork with veggies for lunch, and who knows what for dinner. I like to be surprised when I get home.

Advice for new members...check out the early morning classes if it's possible for you.  There's just something about it.

Thanks Jodi and Andy and all the coaches. I'll keep showing up and I'll keep working hard.
